The Norwegian Forest Cat and the Siberian Cat

The Norwegian Forest Cat and the Siberian Cat are both forest cats. Both breeds were formed naturally hundreds of years ago. The two breeds might look similar at first sight however they bear important differences.

Main features: Similarities:

semi-long, water-repellent coat, strongly built, muscular body and large size

Differences:

  • The NorwegianForest Cat’s head is triangular shaped, has a straight profile, almond shaped eyes and has hind legs higher than fore legs
  • The Siberian Cat’shead is slightly rounded, has a slight break in profile and his eyes are round

As to their nature, they are both kind, friendly, open and adaptive, although the Siberian is more coaxing than the Norwegian Forest Cat, who is more distant.  Given their origins they support the coldweather well. They are real ‘farm cats’, recommended to all cat lovers.  The names of the breeds in various languages: Norwegian Forest Cat (EN)
